Nice, early, deep, heavy enameled porcelain sign from Horn & Hardart Food Service Co. made up for an American Legion post (sign made by Philadelphia Enameling Works, Philadelphia, PA). Note: Horn & Hardart began their food operations in 1888 and later became notorious for opening the first Automat coin operated restaurants in the country beginning in 1902 (high quality food was displayed in racks housed behind rows of glass viewing windows which opened up when coins were inserted). Their iconic chain grew to over 150 restaurants in their heyday (located in New York City, Philadelphia and Baltimore) and remained popular until their final closing in 1991). Front is clean, bright and exceptionally nice (near mint), w/ some light storage oxidizing on plain backside.
