early twin torch countertop cigar lighter by Universal Lighter Co., New York (dated 1895 on brass base piece). Very high quality piece is composed of wood and brass, w/ glass covered name plate and aluminum ornaments on tips of the pull out torches. Appears to have used some type of an early electric battery operated mechanism for lighting the torches as they are removed from the holders.

Universal Cigar Lighter: early twin torch countertop cigar lighter by Universal Lighter Co., New York (dated 1895 on brass base piece). Very high quality piece is composed of wood and brass, w/ glass covered name plate and aluminum ornaments on tips of the pull out torches. Appears to have used some type of an early electric battery operated mechanism for lighting the torches as they are removed from the holders. Excellent overall w/ exception of a small 3/8 wood chip spot at upper top left edge.
