Outstanding, very early, museum quality wooden salesman’s sample for Hanlan brand washing machines, featuring wonderful deer image of front (“Patented AUG 16th 1881” on back). Has a great early country paint surface and beautifully done folk art type detailing and design; w/ a moving interior (rocks back and forth) w/ an actual working wringer on side. Impressive, very high quality piece, that is excellent overall, w/ just the right amount of light wear (C. 8+/-). (Provenance: ex Shapiro collection, previously on display at the National Heritage Museum).
